Why I Spent My Entire Senior Year At Home!

Short answer, HOMESCHOOL (Duhh!) Deciding to be homeschooled was probably one of my best decisions thus far. No, I wasn't bullied or picked on. I was actually pretty known in high school, maybe not the most popular or most liked girl but hey, I was still known!

Hmm. . Now that I think about it my senior year was almost 4 years ago! (Whew! That just gave chills.)

Well. . This is my homeschooling story:

The Decision
I decided to transition a few months before the end of 11th grade. So here's how the idea came about, I went to a SAT/ACT study session at BC (Broward College) and the instructor had us pass around a sign in sheet. . so me, being the nosey person I am, I had to scan the sheet to see what other schools people were coming from and BAM! There it was "Florida Virtual School Full Time". Those words lingered in my head for the duration of the class. As soon as I got inside the car, I looked it up on my phone. (I research everything, LITERALLY!) The idea of doing work from the comfort of my bed was a no brainer! Then I brought the idea to my mom and next thing you know she was signing enrollment papers.

Advantages:
Being able to work at my own pace had to be the ultimate advantage of being homeschooled (I was always that student to finish my work wayyyy before anyone else did and would just sit there waiting for the next assignment, BORINGGG! I know) but being able to complete my work months in advance was just what I needed! There were weeks at a time where I had nothing to do which was awesome, more time to sleep (my favorite thing to do although I don't do much of it these days, being a mom and all). My grades improved tremendously (well not really, maybe from a 'B' to an 'A') but still they improved! I actually LEARNED something! I graduated like everyone else and attended my commencement ceremony in Orlando with my FLVS classmates.

Disadvantages:
NONE! NINGUNA! AUCUN! How could there possibly be any cons? I did my work on my own schedule, IN MY BED! I woke up as late as I wanted to! Well maybe there is just one disadvantage, not being able to talk to the few friends I did have cause they still had classes to go to but still nothing beats staying home all day in your pjs!
Overall, being homeschooled was actually a memorable experience and I honestly wish I found out about it sooner!

How did you spend your senior year? Were you homeschooled? What are your thoughts on being homeschooled? Feel free to comment your senior year experiences. I'd love to hear from you! 🙃

  1. Thanks for sharing this! My senior year was spent at an all girls school with 250 in my class. It was a blast! I am still friends with them even well into college.

    1. That's awesome! I actually considered going to Spellman (all girls college in GA) when I first graduated from high school. Sounds like an amazing experience.
